Christmas 2021

20 December 2021

CHRISTMAS GREETINGS

This year our office will close on Thursday, 23 December 2021 at midday and will re-open on Monday, 17 January 2022.

We look forward to working with you again in 2022.

Have a safe and relaxing break

This year has been like no other.  We are sure you will agree that we all deserve a well earned break and a little Christmas cheer.  To that end, we thank you for your support during the year and wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

As you will appreciate, there have been a lot of changes and constant updates on business and employee welfare.  We share a little of these latest changes below:

Traffic Light Transition Payment and Resurgence Support Payment (RSP) Change

  • A one-off Transition Payment opened for applications in myIR on 10 December.  It operates in exactly the same way as a Resurgence Support Payment, with the following details:
  • Affected revenue period:  3 October to 9 November 2021
  • Amount:  Up to $4,000 + $400 per FTE
  • Final day to apply:  13 January 2022

For more information, go to https://www.ird.govt.nz/updates/news-folder/transition-payment-and-resurgence-support-payment-change

COVID-19 Leave Support Scheme

The COVID-19 Leave Support Scheme is paid at the rate of:

  • $600.00 a week for full-time workers who were working 20 hours or more a week
  • $359.00 a week for part-time workers who were working less than 20 hours a week

COVID-19 Short-Term Absence Payment

The COVID-19 Short Term Absence Payment is available for businesses, including self-employed people, to help pay their employees who cannot work from home while they wait for a COVID-19 test result.

There’s a one-off payment of $359.00 for each eligible worker.  You can only apply for it once, for each eligible employee, in any 30-day period (unless a health official or doctor tells the employee to get another test).

It’s also available to self-employed people.

COVID-19 Penalty and Interest Remissions

As a reminder, remission of interest under the current provisions still apply.  This means that if the IRD know you are adversely impacted by COVID-19, they can remit interest for tax payments that were due on or after 14 February 2020 up until 24 March 2022.  For more information, go to:

https://www.ird.govt.nz/covid-19/manage-my-tax/filing-and-paying/requesting-financial-relief

To notify IRD that you are adversely affected by COVID – add indicator in myIR under ‘I want to’, under COVID-19 support, ‘notify COVID-19 impact’, tick box and submit.

The government has made “in principle” decisions to extend remission for those taxpayers impacted by COVID-19 in existing instalment arrangements at 24 March 2022 until 24 March 2024 and for those small taxpayers who may have difficulty in estimating their provisional tax liabilities in the 2021-22 income year (extending the remission that was available to small taxpayers for the 2020-21 income year).

PROVISIONAL TAX INSTALMENTS – JANUARY 2022

You should have already received tax notices by email.  If you usually receive a notice and have not, then please contact our office.  The emails do not come from the usual Lay Dodd Partners address.  Our accounting software now sends tax notices from mail@apps.myob.com so check your spam folder.  Please do not reply to the tax notice email, instead forward any questions you have to reception@laydodd.co.nz
